Description

the beaker with octagonal lower body, the flared neck painted with two scenes of figures by a harbour or a river within gilt-edged quatrefoil cartouches, the panels of the lower-portion painted alternately in black and iron-red monochrome with panels of harbour scenes reserved on a gold ground, the stepped domed cover with diaper panels of cells and half flowerheads and two cartouches of figures in landscapes, with a gilt dragon finial, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, gilt letter Z. to both pieces

Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
