Description

painted on both sides with a scene of merchants and their wares within a Böttger lustre, iron-red and gilt scroll-edged panel, further enriched by sprigs of indianische Blumen beneath a gilt scrollwork border around the shoulder, the spout with a mask-form terminal picked out in gilding and black enamel, and the domed cover with a continuous scene of merchants, crossed swords mark in blue enamel, gilt numeral 70. to both pieces


Height 4 ¾ in; 12 cm

Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
