Description

of oval quatrefoil form, painted with scattered moths, butterflies and other insects, applied with naturistically coloured flowers, the cover with a flowering branch forming the handle, the tureen with two gilt-embellished double-scroll handles, gilt rims, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, the stand with impressed numeral 54

A circular écuelle and stand of this type was in the collection of Dr. Willy Abrahamson, Berlin, sold at the auction of his estate, Auktionshaus des Westens, Berlin, 18-19 March 1931, lot 36. The piece later entered an important private collection and was sold at Bonhams, London, 20 July 2020, lot 90. An écuelle of the same form as the present lot, applied with flowers, is in the Schneider Collection at Schloss Lustheim.
