Description

modelled by P. Reinicke, as a couple seated in an arbour, the male figure handing his companion a book, their robes painted in complimenting colours, below a pierced arbour embellished with rocailles and trailing flowering foliage, the base applied with leaves and flowers, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue

Height 7 ⅝ in; 19,5 cm

The present model is based on an engraving by Gabriel Huquier after a work by François Boucher. The engraving, together with a further example of the model, is illustrated in Thomas Michie, “Chinoiserie,” in S. Andres-Acevedo et al. (eds.), Hidden Valuables: Early-period Meissen Porcelains from Swiss Private Collections, Munich, 2020, p. 97, figs. 65–66.
