The globular body of this jug, set on a defined ring foot, is characteristic of copper alloy vessels from the late Timurid to early Ottoman period. Its proportions and curvature follow a well-established type, in which the spherical form provides structural balance and reflects the technical skill of the maker. Aqa Mahmud is most probably the son of the poet Aqa Malik Sabzavari, pen-named Shahi (d.1453) who worked as a poet and calligrapher at the court of the Timurid Prince Baysunghur in Herat.
