the écuelle, of the third size, the stand, of the second size, decorated with frises riches borders of gilt-edged shaded puce shells alternating with stylized flowerhead oval medallions, connected by laurel, reserved by a puce dotted ground, between swags of berried garlands, and rims with a blue-ground with gilt leafy-vine, interlaced LL marks in blue enclosing date letter m for 1765, painter's mark for Charles-Louis Méreaud (active at Sèvres between 1756-1780), indistinct incised marks to écuelle, incised L to stand

The present écuelle is a particularly fine expression of Méreaud's specialization in textile-inspired decoration, with its dense and intricate patterning closely evoking the richness of contemporary woven fabrics.
