A Sèvres Porcelain Jug (Broc 'ordinaire'), circa 1765
of the second size, vibrantly painted with an ikat pattern, with vertical bands of a puce and gold chevron pattern, alternating with blue and pink ground stripes with a gilt stiff leaf pattern, the handle and rims picked out in gilding, interlaced LL mark in blue enclosing date letter M for 1765, incised cursive letters fc

The shape of this jug, made in four sizes, has been identified as a broc ordinaire, in the Sèvres archives. By 1752 the form was in production in the four sizes, and between 1752-1760, twenty-nine examples of the second size were sold. Prices varied between 48 livres for an example painted with flowers, to 168 livres for a jug with a blue ground and gilding. For further details on this shape, see R. II, pp. 695–96, who notes that from the early 1760s many brocs were listed but that the titles ('ordinaire') are seldom recorded.
Comparative examples of this pattern include a gobelet enfoncé and saucer in the Musée national de Céramique, Sèvres (inv. no. MNC 23014.1), and a gobelet Bouillard and saucer in the Art Gallery of New South Wales (acc. no. L2010.198).
