the box painted with a continuous harbour scene of merchants and their wares on quaysides, the cover with two similar scenes above a gilt trellis and scroll border, the cover surmounted with a gilt-highlighted rabbit-form finial, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, gilt numeral 23. to both

Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
