G. Röbbig, Munich;

Palatinate Private Collection, Lempertz, Cologne, 29 May 2020, lot 861;

Acquired at the above sale.

The so-called Atlasmuster decoration is documented in the 1792 factory price lists (Preiscourant) at Nymphenburg under the designation en taffent geflammt. The pattern derives from contemporary silk and brocade designs that enjoyed wide popularity, and was similarly adopted at other porcelain manufactories, notably in Vienna, Frankenthal and Sèvres. Further pieces decorated in this manner, including a near identical ice-pail, are illustrated in Alfred Ziffer, Nymphenburger Porzellan: Sammlung Bäuml, Stuttgart, 1997, pp. 227-228, cat. nos. 658-667.
