A wucai 'dragon' jar, Mark and period of Jiajing | 明嘉靖　五彩穿花龍紋罐　《大明嘉靖年製》款

Closely related jars of this design, but with minor variations, depicting dragons striding amidst clouds and above crested waves, and with cloud motifs instead of a floral scroll at the shoulder, include a jar also in the Huaihaitang Collection, ibid., cat. no. 29; and another taller jar in the Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Tokyo, illustrated in Mayuyama, Seventy Years, vol. 1, Mayuyama & Co., Ltd, Tokyo, 1976, pl. 844.
