A Pair of Sèvres Porcelain Wine Bottle Coolers (Seaux à bouteilles) made for Marie-Antoinette, or Possibly Gustav III of Sweden, circa 1784
decorated in the pattern called 'riche en couleurs et riche en or', with a band of alternating roses and cornflowers on a maroon ground within gilt beaded and laurel leaf borders, reserving four medallions enclosing pansies within a ring of grey pearls, a further band of grey pearls around the base, the footrim, the rims and shell-moulded handles edged in gilding, interlaced LL marks in blue enclosing dater letters gg for 1784, painter's marks of three dots in a row for Jean Baptiste Tandart (active at Vincennes and Sèvres between 1754-1800), gilder's mark 9. for Charles-Nicolas Buteux (active at Sèvres between 1763-1801), one incised numeral 13, 45 and the other incised 13, 45D
