The decoration seen on the present tureen is taken from a Chinese prototype. A dish decorated in this pattern is discussed and illustrated by Julia Weber in Meißener Porzellane mit Dekoren nach ostasiatischen Vorbildern, Stiftung Ernst Schneider, Schloss Lustheim, Band II, Munich, 2013, pp. 84–85, cat. no. 65. A larger dish from the Ernesto F. Blohm Collection was sold at Christie’s, London, on 10 April 1989, lot 30, having previously been in the collection of Otto and Magdalena Blohm and sold at Sotheby’s, London, 5 July 1960, lot 139. A closely related tureen of this form, painted with a variation of the pattern incorporating crayfish within panels, was sold at Sotheby’s, London, 27 February 1996, lot 85.
