Description

the centre vibrantly painted with a large medallion of chrysanthemum flowerheads against iron-red foliage, framed within Böttger-lustre and gilded strapwork enclosing diamond-shaped trellis panels, the rim painted with four panels of chinoiserie figures within lustre-filled cartouches embellished with puce and iron-red foliate scrolls, joined by gilded scrollwork, the reverse of the rim painted with three branches of indianische Blumen, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue

Six similar plates or stands were in the Collection of Franz and Margarete Oppenheimer, Berlin & Vienna, and subsequently in the collection of Fritz Mannheimer, Amsterdam & Paris. They were later acquired by Edmond de Rothschild, and were sold (anonymously) at his sales at Christie's, London, 28 March 1977, lots 22 and 23, and 17 October 1977, lots 8-10. Four of these plates then entered a Swiss private collection and were sold again at Christie's, London, 11 December 2007, lots 12-14. A seventh plate or stand was in the Dr. Ludwig Darmstädter Collection, Berlin, sold, Rudolph Lepke's, Berlin, 24-26 March 1925, lot 132, and subsequently entered the Hoffmeister Collection, illustrated in Dieter Hoffmeister, Meissener Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts Sammlung Hoffmeister, Hamburg, 1999, Band I, pp. 112-113, no. 54.
