Description

4¼-inch enamel dial signed Gentschel A Strasbourg, the movement with silk suspension, unusually cut outside count wheel striking on a bell, flat-bottomed plates, the obelisk case surmounted by an armillary sphere and applied with foliate and scientific mounts, supported on the backs of four recumbent lions, on a concave-sided plinth with block feet


Haut. 56 cm; Height 22 in

Probably the one mentioned in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopedia of French Clocks from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century, Éditions de l'Amateur, 1997, p. 220, as being part of a private collection :

« Pendule Louis XVI  en bronze doré en forme d’obélisque reposant sur quatre lions couchés, sphère armillaire au sommet. Ornements de branches de laurier et de rinceaux feuillagés ; base en marbre. Mouvement signé Simons à Paris. Une pendule identique est signée Gentschel à Strasbourg, conservée dans une collection privée (Documentation Maurice Segoura Paris) »
