Description

4¼-inch enamel dial signed Buzot A Paris, finely pierced and engraved hands, the movement with silk suspension, numbered star-cut outside count wheel striking on a bell, flat bottomed plates, the backplate signed as the dial, the drum surmounted by the Altar of Venus and is flanked by figures of Cupid presenting a Dove to Venus, the frieze below with a mount of doves and martial trophies, the plinth inset with a frieze of leaves, on disc feet

Joseph Buzot, clock maker, received master in 1770.


A similar clock with a dial signed "Buzot, Paris" is at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, while another by Martin Baffert is currently on the Parisian market.
