Rossi’s history of Ravenna gives the most complete surviving description of the Church of St. John the Evangelist built by Galla Placidia (426) and its mosaics (pp.85-86), removed in 1568.
Folio (274 x 198 mm). Roman type, 34 lines plus headline. collation: πa6 A-Z4 Aa-Zz4 AAa-ZZz4 AAAa4 a-b4 a-d4 e6 [f]2 : 318 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device to title-page, woodcut headpieces and initials. (Crease to Hh4 affecting a sliver of text, browning to a few leaves, intermittent light spotting.)
binding: Seventeenth-century vellum (284 x 206 mm), flat spine. (Small areas of worming to upper pastedown, covers very lightly soiled.)
