A reprint of Paolo Manuzio’s edition of the Opera (1557) with a new preface by Aldo II Manuzio addressed to the studiosi, his own Veterum scriptorium de Sallustio testimonia (a collection of ancient sources of Sallust’s life and work), and his scholia on the Catalina, Iugurtha, and excerpts from the Historiae.


8vo (149 x 98 mm). Italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-X8 Y-Z8: 183 leaves (of 184, lacking final blank). Woodcut Aldine device to title-page and verso of last leaf. (Marginal restoration to first four leaves, washed.)


binding: Twentieth-century brown morocco (153 x 103 mm) (S. David), triple gilt fillet around sides, gilt spine, marbled endleaves, gilt edges. (Slightest wear to joints.)
