The Syston Park copy. An Italian counterfeit of the Aldine edition of 1521, with six full-page woodcut illustrations by Zoan Andrea. Rare.


8vo (147 x 90 mm). Italic type, 29 lines. collation: A-Z8 AA8 BB4: 196 leaves. Title-page with illustrated architectural frame, title printed in red and black, six woodcut illustrations. (Restoration to title and following leaf with portions in facsimile, first two leaves remargined, repair to B1, a few short closed marginal tears, longer tear to M7, scattered soiling, spotting, and browning.)


binding: Nineteenth-century blue polished calf (154 x 98 mm), covers with border of three gilt fillets framing border of repeated three-lobed leaf in blind, gilt fleurons in corners, spine with semi-raised bands in six compartments, second with gilt-lettered red morocco label, edges of covers gilt, all edges gilt, turn-ins with gilt rules, marbled endleaves. (Extremities a bit rubbed.)
