A Pair of George II Mahogany Stools, Circa 1750
now adapted as small low tables with 20th-Century verde antico marble tops supplied by R.W. Symonds; each with a plain frieze with gadrooned lower borders on acanthus-carved cabriole legs and claw-and-ball feet, losses to the gadrooned borders, one marble top inscribed underneath in red paint 6761 / LOND.

The British architect, interior designer, furniture historian and consultant Robert Wemyss Symonds (1889-1958) was a preeminent expert on English furniture and was instrumental in advising some of the most important 20th century collectors of antiques, among them Percival Griffiths, J.S. Sykes, Geoffrey Blackwell and Samuel Messer. His numerous influential publications include The present state of old English furniture (1921), English furniture from Charles II to George II (1929) and Masterpieces of English furniture and clocks.
