Description


The frieze opening with a drawer, the fall-front opening on six drawers and five compartments, with a red leather top,the lower part opening with two doors and a drawer, decorated with geometric marquetry, with a later brèche d’Alep marble top, stamped D. DE LOOSE and JME; (some bronze element a later addition)

Daniel de Loose, cabinet maker, received master in 1767,

Daniel de Loose established himself on rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine where he produced a varied and high-quality output, notably geometric marquetry, as can be seen on a secretary presented for sale in Paris in 1988, illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1989, p.241. A drop-front secretary with the same geometric decoration, the same rosettes at the corners but without the apron was sold at Agutte, Neuilly sur Seine, on 5 November 2025, lot 89.
