Comparative literature

P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier français du XVIIIème siècle, Dictionnaire des ébénistes et des menuisiers, Paris, 1989, p. 503

Jean-Baptiste III Lelarge, menuisier, received master in 1775.

Coming from a dynasty of cabinetmakers, Lelarge produced armchairs with medallion-shaped backs and, more rarely, square ones, as seen in the present lot. He worked for a wealthy clientele in France and abroad, but is not mentioned in the archives of the Garde-Meuble. Some of his works are at the Louvre Museum and the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, but also at the Metropolitan Meusem of Art de New York or at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
