Description
modelled by J.G. Becker, after a model by J. F. Eberlein, standing barefoot, each holding a basket of radishes, with a watering can at their feet, the mound bases applied with leaves and flowers, he with incised HNI and brown enamel V mark, she with incised LI and red enamel B mark, perhaps for the painter Philipp Magnus Bechel;
together with a Höchst miniature figure group of a lady with hairdresser, circa 1755, probably modelled by L. Russinger, the seated lady holding a mirror and flower posy, being attended to by a gentleman coiffing her hair, a brazier and a small powder bowl at her feet, before an elaborate rocaille scroll arbour, on a scroll-moulded base edged in puce and gilding

The male and female gardener models are after those created by Johann Friedrich Eberlein at Meissen, derived from an engraving by Edme Bouchardon. A pair of gardeners of this model, attributed to Johann Gottfired Becker, are illustrated by Patricia Stahl, Höchster Porzellan 1746-1796, Katalog zur Ausstellung Höchster Porzellan, Heidelberg, 1994, p. 191, cat. no. 6.2.3 and a pair are in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, object number: 50.211.213.
