Description
probably modelled by L. Russinger, the front section with a quill tray, moulded with rocaille scrolls above and below a pierced trellis gallery flanking a central cartouche, the back section with pierced scrolls and foliage behind a putto tipping flowers from a cornucopia into a bowl, flanked by two seated putti holding cornucopia, painted with flower sprays and heightened in puce, turquoise and gilding, with a fitted square inkwell, pounce pot and two covers with dove finials, crowned wheel mark in underglaze-blue

An example of this elaborate form of inkstand, attributed to Laurentius Russinger on stylistic grounds, is illustrated by Patricia Stahl, Höchster Porzellan 1746-1796, Katalog zur Ausstellung Höchster Porzellan, Heidelberg, 1994, p. 177, cat. no. 5.5.1, where the author notes the modelling of the putti and use of open trelliswork are typical of his designs.
