Skilfully rendered with incisions, the bird is portrayed with an elongated tail gently bifurcated in the centre, typical features of the Western Zhou dynasty seen in other jade examples, including a shorter (6 cm) example preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Jadeware (I), Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 90, and another found in the Zhangjiapo site in Shaanxi, M170:97, illustrated in Zhangjiapo xizhou mudi [The Western Zhou cemetery at Zhangjiapo], Beijing, 1999, p. 290, no. 220:4.

以精巧的刻劃技法呈現,玉鳥的長尾於中央處微微分叉,為西周時期玉器中常見的特徵。類似風格亦見於其他玉雕例子,如北京故宮博物院收藏的一件較短(6 公分)玉鳥,載於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品大系:玉器(上)》,香港,1996 年,圖版 90;以及另一件出土於陝西張家坡遺址 M170:97 的例子,載於《張家坡西周墓地》,北京,1999 年,第 290 頁,編號 220:4。
