Title printed in red and black, dedication leaf, list of subscribers, 28 hand-colored engraved plates, one double-page, contemporary marginal annotations; scattered foxing, staining, and browning, one or two closed marginal tears, instances of offsetting of plates onto text. Early full brown calf, covers ruled and boarded in gilt, rounded spine with false bands in seven compartments, second gilt-lettered, others with repeat gilt bird device, marbled endpapers; some fading and rubbing, joints weak.
First edition. A richly illustrated work that counted Sir Isaac Newton among its subscribers.
