8vo (200 x 127 mm). Engraved title-page vignette depicting a chemistry laboratory at Freiberg, one folding plate of amalgam apparatus; light browning. Contemporary German grey pastepaper boards, black spine label, red edges; extremities a little worn, front board edge shaved.


First edition by Wilhelm August Lampadius, professor of chemistry and metallurgy at the Freiberg Academy. A pioneer of analytical chemistry in Germany, Lampadius was responsible for several key innovations in mineralogy, electrochemistry, and applied chemical technology, and is credited with the discovery of carbon disulfide.
