Description

"A copy of one of the earlier counterfeit editions of c. 1503" (Shaw). Although the imprint is dated 31 July 1508 ("MDVIII. Die uero ultima Iulij"), the preliminary letter from Aldo to Johannes Lubranski is redated October 1508 ("Octobri Mese MDVIII").
8vo (148 x 88 mm). Italic type, 30 lines plus headline. collation: a12 b-z8 A-C8: 212 leaves. (Text block cracked and toned, small loss to inner margin of title, a few heavy stains to a3, last leaf remargined.)
binding: Late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century sheep (153 x 100 mm), brown marbled end papers, brown speckled edges. (Rubbed and worn, losses to tail of spine.)
