A rare early Lyonese edition of Institutio Oratoria, edited with an introduction by the humanist and typographer Geoffroy Tory.


8vo (163 x 94 mm). Italic type, 30 lines plus headline. collation: a-z8 &8 aa-yy8 zz10: 378 leaves. Red fleur-de-lis to title-page, guide letters in initial spaces. (Repair to corner of ii1-2, z10 and rear endleaf loose, repair to hole on title-page and smaller hole to first three quires, occasional areas of spotting.)


binding: Early nineteenth-century English olive morocco gilt floral border (170 x 101 mm), spine with six compartments gilt, marbled pastedowns and endpapers, gilt edges. (Spine restored, a little scuffed.)
