The first edition of this collection of five of George Whitefield's most popular American sermons, with a preface by Reverend Gilbert Tennent. This text was published by Benjamin Franklin during the reformist preacher's fifth tour of the American colonies, which lasted from 26 October 1744 to 2 June 1748.
A film dramatizing Whitefield and Franklin's unlikely friendship, A Great Awakening, was released earlier this year.
Rare—besides this copy, just one other copy of this text has appeared at auction in the last century, per Rare Book Hub. ESTC locates seven institutions with copies of this edition.
