Benjamin Franklin
Poor Richard improved: Being an Almanack and Ephemeris of the Motions of the Sun and Moon … For the Year of our Lord 1752 … Fitted to the Latitude of forty degrees, and a Meridian of near five hours west from London; but may, without sensible error, serve all the Northern Colonies. 12mo (162 x 90 mm). Woodcut borders, anatomical man, and monthly panels; title-page torn and worn with tissue reinforcements, final leaf with primarily marginal restoration, some scattered spotting, staining, and offsetting. Modern speckled calf, covers ruled in gilt, spine with raised bands in six compartments, second with gilt lettering-piece, others with repeat floral motif in gilt.
First edition. In the preface Franklin discusses the history of the calendar, a discussion provoked by the Parliament’s alterations thereof. He also includes a “brief chronology” from the birth of Jesus Christ concentrating on the history of Britain and her colonies.
