This Isfahan rug displays a particularly varied colour palette and a finely drawn cloudband and spiral vine field. A comparable use of colour and intricate drawing is found on a fragment of a larger Isfahan carpet formerly in the Bernheimer collection, sold at Austria Auction Company, Vienna, 16 September 2014, lot 144. The use of cotton whites to delineate highlights of the field is unusual in this example. Cotton is used to similar effect on a magnificent Isfahan gallery carpet formerly in the William A.
