Eugène Cornu (1827-1899)

Sculptor and bronze sculptor, Eugène Cornu favored the combination of materials, particularly marbles and bronzes. He collaborated closely with the Compagnie des Marbres Onyx d’Algérie, directed by Gustave Viot. He participated in the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition, where he won a gold medal for an important pair of vases in onyx, bronze, and enamel. In 1873, he took over the company and continued to produce numerous sculptures. He also created furniture in the Japonisme style, such as a bronze and alabaster pedestal table, sold at Sotheby’s London, 8 November 2022, lot 94. A bronze pedestal table in the Etruscan style, attributed to Eugène Cornu, was sold at P. Bergé et Associés, Paris, 21 January 2024, lot 100.
