These wall lights topped with a flaming torch are inspired by designs by Jean-Louis Prieur (1732–1795), as evidenced by one of his preparatory drawings preserved at the J. Paul Getty Museum, illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 172, fig. 3.5.3. A very similar model of wall lights associated with this artist and dated to around 1770 is kept at the Württembergisches Landesmuseum in Stuttgart (ill. in op. cit., p. 173, fig. 3.5.6). Another comparable pair is in the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

An approximate dating can also be proposed in light of a portrait of the Marquis de Marigny and his wife, painted by Louis-Michel Van Loo (1707–1771) and exhibited at the 1769 Salon, which shows the same model of wall lights in the background.
