Description
modelled standing playing a lute, her hair coiffured with jewels and a comb, wearing a brown robe a la Polonaise, painted with iron-red flowers and edged with green ribbons and yellow bows, her puce underskirt decorated with stripes, upon a small mound base moulded with puce scrolls and applied with leaves, crowned FF mark in underglaze-blue

Only two further examples of this figure appear to be known. One, formerly in the historic von Pannwitz collection is illustrated by Otto von Falke, Die Kunstsammlung von Pannwitz, Munich, 1925, pl. 71, cat. no. 403, and was subsequently sold (with an associated figure of a gallant) in an anonymous sale at Sotheby’s, London, 14 March 1967, lot 18. The other example (paired with a flautist) was in the historic collection of Emma Budge, Hamburg, and was sold at Paul Graupe, Berlin, 27-29 September 1937, lot 1981 and subsequently in the Ernesto Blohm Collection, sold at Christie’s, London, 10 April 1989, lot 73.
