Pierre Roussel, cabinetmaker, received master in 1745.
Based on the rue de Charenton at the signboard of l'Image de Saint-Pierre, Roussel was described as early as 1769 in the Almanach de Vray Mérite as "one of the leading cabinetmakers in Paris." Among other works, he produced highly distinctive vernis Martin commodes. The inventory drawn up after his death specifically lists several pieces of furniture in the "lacquer style"
His important production of furniture in Vernis Martin is almost certainly linked to his relationship with the Martin family. Indeed, he regularly collaborated with Jean-Baptiste Chevallier, who was the brother-in-law and neighbor of one of the Martin brothers, Guillaume. A notable example is a Vernis Martin commode bearing both their stamps, sold by Sotheby's London on 18 April 2023, lot 45.
