The figure of Hercules, wearing the skin of the Nemean lion and holding a club, appears quite rarely on cartel clocks of the Louis XV period. A nearly identical cartel clock, signed Lefaucheur and formerly in the collection of Dr Clifford Ambrose Truesdell, was sold by Christie's, New York, on 24 November 2009, for $17,500.
