An enamelled stoneware dish
Signed on the base Kenzan (Ogata Kenzan, 1663-1743)
Kenzan ware, Kyoto, Edo period, early 18th century
the rectangular stoneware dish with high sides, painted in coloured underglaze enamels on a finely crackled cream ground, with spring foliage, including bracken shoots (warabi) and irises, the sides of the exterior with Korin-style swirling waters, iron-oxide under transparent glaze rim, signed on the flat base in underglaze iron-oxide, accompanied with a fitted wood storage box

Kenzan adapted the kakuzara, or cornered dish from a lacquer or woodware model. It was the perfect medium for Kenzan’s painterly motifs. Such dishes were probably intended for serving light snacks during the tea ceremony. Decorated with spring foliage and vegetation, this dish would likely have been used to serve seasonal delicacies.

乾山自漆器或木器原型中汲取靈感,將「角皿」造型轉化於陶藝創作。此類器皿堪稱承載乾山繪畫性紋樣的完美媒介,很可能原為茶道中盛裝輕食而製。此器飾以春日草木紋樣,當是用以呈奉應季茶點。
