Folio (287 x 220mm), no. 1 of ten copies printed on shavings of white sycamore (this copy for Louis Barthou), each leaf hinged on guards, medallion portrait of the author in three states including one in blue ink, original blue wrappers bound in, dark blue morocco with gilt lettering on spine by Cretté, successor of Marius Michel, inside dentelles, inside cover lined with pearwood, dark blue moiré silk endpapers, slipcase, wrapper splitting from guard

Les Nuits is a cycle of poems from 1835-37, written in the immediate aftermath of the end of de Musset's love affair with George Sand. This edition has a 16-page introduction by Louis Barthou (1862-1934), a politician who served as Prime Minister of France in 1913 and who was so passionate about the arts that he was dubbed "minister of poets".
