BEMBO, PIETRO. Delle rime di M. Pietro Bembo Terza e ultima impressione. Venice: Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari, 1548
ANOTHER RARE DELUXE COPY PRINTED ON BLUE PAPER of the third edition of Bembo's Delle rime, revised by the author. This copy was bound in the nineteenth century for Marchese Girolamo d'Adda (1815-1881), the Italian politician, writer, literary scholar and art collector.
Lots 1596 and 1597 are two copies of the third and final edition of Bembo’s Rime printed in 1548 by Giolito, but they display small variations in line with Salvatore Bongi’s Annali di Gabriel Giolito de' Ferrari (1890; p. 217).
The present lot, lot 1597, is variant III: the spacing varies, the two final lines of the title on the title-page are in italics; the dedication is to "M. Pietro Gradinico Gabriel Giolito", where lot 1596 has "Gradonico", and is dated "XII di Gennaro", where the first variant has "Genaro"; page 69 is misnumbered as 58 and 70 is misnumbered as 80. The copy at the Bavarian State Library is identical to the present copy.
The previous lot, lot 1596 is an example of variant I, the first Giolito 1548 impression.
Third edition, 12mo (131 x 76 mm). Italic type. collation: A-F12 (F11 and F12 blank): 72 leaves. Woodcut device on title repeated at colophon on F12v, woodcut portrait of the author on A3v, historiated opening initial.
