First Aldine edition of Sannazaro’s Latin poems, with a preface to the reader by Gian Francesco d'Asola stating that he was against, in principle, publishing contemporary authors, but was making an exception for Sannazaro and Bembo, whose poetry approached the glory of the ancients (ad antiquorum in eo genere principum gloriam accederet) and deserved to be read and imitated.
