Emile and Lin Deletaille, eds., Trésors du Nouveau Monde, Brussels, 1992, p. 330, fig. 326

The solid figures of the Caldas complex are best known for their abstract facial design and tranquil and serene aura. The extended slab beneath the figure represents a bench in abstract form. Seated on an elevated ceremonial bench was a sign of authority and status, further affirmed here by the constricted leg bands, narrow headdress and gold nose ring.

For the figural type, see Armand J. Labbe, Colombia Before Columbus, The People, Culture, and Ceramic Art of Prehispanic Colombia, New York, 1986, p. 98, fig. 82.
