This male anthropomorphic figure represents a Blolo Bian, literally an “otherworldly husband”. Such effigies belonged to the private domain; they were kept by their owners and used in practices designed to maintain harmony between the individual and their spiritual double.
An elaborate coiffure made up of braids and buns frames a serene face.
Standing upright, the figure rests its hands along an abdomen patterned with scarification. A deep, lustrous black patina coats the entire piece.
