Z.S. Liang was born in Guangzhou, China to a family of artists. After studying at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Liang continued his studies in the United States at the Massachusetts College of Arts (1982, BFA) and finished his training at Boston University (MFA, 1989). While studying and painting Wampanoag Indigenous culture at the outdoor Museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Liang felt great inspiration, and now focuses his paintings on primarily Native American cultures.
