First edition of this important work of seventeenth-century military science. The three parts deal with exercise of horse and foot, military architecture and fortification, and gunnery.
Small folio (295 x 188 mm). General title printed in red and black, two engraved frontispieces, 11 (of 12) folding engraved plates, engraved table, engraved illustrations, woodcut diagrams; worming at upper margin, a few stray spots and ink smudges, faint dampstaining to a few leaves. Contemporary brown calf, spine with raised bands in six compartments, edges speckled red; rubbed, closed tear to head of spine, calf lifting from boards.
