Gassendi, Pierre — Galileo Galilei —Johannes Kepler
Institutio Astronomica: Juxta Hypotheses Tam Veterum quam Recentiorum... Nuntius Sidereus... Dioptrice. London: Jacob Flesher, 1653.
An early English compendium of three major 17th century astronomical works — the stated second edition, corrected, (but really the second editions of the Gassendi and Kepler texts, and the third of the Galileo).
8vo (177 x 110 mm). Title page printed in red and black, 3 additional titles, the second and third text with continuous pagination, woodcut diagrams and illustrations, some full-page; front flyleaves detached, infrequent pale spots, offsetting to two of the additional titles from non-archival bookmarks, over-opened at leaf B1 in the Galileo text, trimmed close at the edge of one illustration just shaving the border. Contemporary paneled calf, blind-ruled, edges stained red; front board detached, rubbing and a few wormholes to boards, surface cracking to the spine, spine ends chipped.
PROVENANCE
