First edition of this first continuation. Plate V, figure 1 shows the experiment in which Boyle drew water up with his pump to the top of the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford.
4to (200 x 150 mm). Woodcut headpieces, eight folding engraved plates, longitudinal title-label at end; plates VII and VIII, along with gathering D, singed along top margin, primarily marginal dampstaining, soiling and scattered foxing, instances of early marginalia. Contemporary calf, edges stained black, pastedowns contemporary binder's waste; rebacked and recornered, rubbed, joints tender.
