Description

the circular dish with flat rim on a raised ring foot, decorated in red, green and yellow enamels and underglaze blue, depicting two jars with a crackled glaze within a flower basket, a branch of red camellias and narcissus, the extended, flat rim painted in cobalt blue under transparent glaze with a band of linked rui-head clouds, decorated on the underside in underglaze blue with three tasselled clusters of coins, the raised ring foot with comb-tooth band, accompanied with a fitted wood storage box

20.2 cm. diam.

Kochukyo Co., Ltd, Tokyo.

Two crackle glazed jars placed inside a rattan flower basket with long loop handle before a branch of camellia and narcissus. The jars are filled with petals and blossoms rendered in iron-red enamel. While soft shading in iron-red is employed for the camellia flowers, the narcissi are rendered in a simplified outline. In contrast, there is particular attention to the gnarled branch in underglaze blue with delicate modulation and details. The flat rim is decorated with a continuous band of ruyi-heads.
