This lead-glazed Han dynasty jar is modelled after contemporaneous bronze zun wine vessels. Of cylindrical form, it is adorned with animated mythical beasts clambering across the surface, raised on three animal-form feet and applied with relief mask handles at the sides. A gilt-bronze example with a Boshan-style mountain lid is preserved in the Taipei Palace Museum, acc. no. gutong-2044, illustrating the original form of the type.
