A Louis XIV Silver Small Pepper Shaker, Pierre Valette III, Perpignan, 1690-1710
Cylindrical with bold gadroon borders, cover with bayonet attachments and pierced with six-pointed stars, lozenges, and teardrops, baluster finial, marked on base, rim of body and bayonet on cover with later control mark.

Where acquired by the present collector.
Pierre Valette III received master goldsmith in Beziers in 1684, and leaves for Perpignan after 1687 where he practices until 1710. The mark on this pepper shaker, P. VALETTE, is not listed with the "P" of his first name in the Thuile. This hallmark was probably registered when he arrived in Perpignan.
