Description
The Rothschild Flagon: A rare German silver flagon, Carl Hessenberg, Frankfurt-am-Main, dated 1776.
Recording the Heads of Charity for the Jewish Community in Frankfurt from 1776 to 1805/06, including Mayer Amschel Rothschild, founder of the family, at his famous House of the Green Shield, and his brother Moses Amschel Rothschild.
Probably presented to the family in 1830, on the erection of the Rothschild Hospital in Frankfurt; descended in the family until sold by Victor, 3rd Lord Rothschild, in London in 1937.
Exhibited at the Frankfurt Historical Museum, the Frankfurt Jewish Museum, and the Rothschild Bank, London.
